Android 15 Developer Preview expected on Feb 15

Google is gearing up to unveil the first Developer Preview of Android 15 later this week, as per a recent update reported by 9to5Google.

A developer from Google mentioned in a comment on the Android Open Source Project that the first preview of Android 15 is set for Thursday, February 15, 2024. The developer referred to it as “Android V,” the internal codename being “Vanilla Ice Cream.”

If the timeline sticks, this preview will come shortly after the launch of Android 14 QPR3 Beta 1, which featured an Easter Egg Update with the Android 14 logo enclosed in a triangle, hinting at the upcoming Android 15’s codename.

Unlike last year, Android 15’s preview is arriving a bit later, with last year’s preview dropping on February 8, 2023. As per tradition, only Pixel devices are likely to be eligible for the Android 15 Developer Preview.

Users enrolled in beta updates will probably remain on Android 14 for now, given that Developer Preview releases are typically less stable and not intended for public use.

The first Android 15 Developer Preview will give us a glimpse into Google’s upcoming release. There are hints that the “Private Space” feature, allowing users to hide and lock certain apps, might be included, as seen in the Android 14 QPR2 Beta 2 update.

Further details on the next Android OS are expected to be revealed with the rollout of the first Android 15 Developer Preview update tomorrow.
