Google ‘Clementine’ and ‘Kiyomi’ codenames surface, could be Pixel Tablet 2

The latest Android beta release has unveiled two new codenames, hinting at the development of a next-generation Pixel Tablet 2, as reported by 9to5Google.

During the development of the Pixel Tablet, it was known internally by two different codenames – “Tangor” and later “Tangorpro,” with the latter being the one released last year as the Pixel Tablet. Another codename observed alongside the tablet was “Citron,” although its intended device remains unconfirmed.

Similarly, two versions of the Pixel Tablet’s bundled dock were in development – “Korlan” and “Yuzu,” but only one style was eventually released. The codenames for the Pixel Tablet series have a consistent fruit theme, particularly from the citrus family.

With the release of the first beta of Android 14 QPR3 for Pixel phones, 9to5Google found new entries in the code – “Clementine” and “Kiyomi,” both previously unseen. These names are related to citrus fruits, with a tangor being a hybrid of sweet orange and another citrus fruit, while Clementine and Kiyomi are specific examples.

Although there’s no clear indication in Android 14 QPR3 about the nature of devices Clementine and Kiyomi represent, the citrus connection suggests the possibility of a Pixel Tablet 2 in development, as per the report.
