Sony Xperia 1 VI with 48MP triple camera setup surfaces

Sony Xperia 1 VI (pronounced Mark 6), the company’s flagship smartphone, is expected to be announced later this year. Ahead of the official launch, the camera specifications of the smartphone have surfaced online, thanks to Insider Sony.

Similar to its predecessor, the Xperia 1 V, the upcoming flagship will feature a triple camera setup, all equipped with 48MP sensors. Unlike the predecessor, which had only one 2-layer Transistor Pixel stacked CMOS image sensor (Exmor T for mobile), this one will feature all sensors with that technology.

The primary shooter is a 48MP 1/1.4″ sensor with a pixel size of 1.12μm. It is a 24mm wide-angle lens with support for in-sensor zoom, allowing it to take 48mm (2x) shots.

The full-pixel dual-PD AF feature should enable the camera to focus quickly and accurately in both day and low-light conditions. It is also said to have enhanced 1080p video recording support with EIS.

There’s a dedicated 48MP ultra-wide-angle shooter with a sensor size of 1/2.7″ and a pixel size of 0.6μm. It can capture 14-18mm ultra-wide-angle shots and has auto-focus capability.

Completing the camera setup is a 48MP 1/2.7″ periscope telephoto sensor with a pixel size of 0.6μm. The periscopic lens can zoom from 70-105mm to 85-125mm to 70-135mm. The periscope telephoto lens is capable of 3x optical zoom and can go up to 6x zoom via sensor crop.

Details about the front camera, as well as other key specifications of the smartphone, are currently unknown. As per current information, the rear camera setup seems to have improved specifications.

More information about this flagship smartphone is expected to be revealed in the coming weeks.
