JioCinema to stream Peacock, Universal Studios content from June

NBCUniversal (NBCU) and Viacom18 have announced that they have entered a multi-year agreement, through which JioCinema will get access to stream content from NBCU’s portfolio that includes Universal Television, UCP, Universal International Studios, Universal Television Alternative Studio, Sky Studios, DreamWorks Animation, Universal Pictures, Focus Features, Bravo, and more.

NBCU’s programming will be present in a Peacock branded hub and will start streaming from June 2023. These will be available JioCinema Premium users, which also includes HBO, Max Original and Warner Bros content that started streaming earlier this month after a deal with Warner Bros Discovery.

Some of the popular series include Young Rock, The Lazarus Project and Peacock Originals like Bel-Air, Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin as well as dramas and comedies from NBCU’s vast library, including Downton Abbey, Suits, The Office, Parks and Recreation and The Mindy Project.

At launch, JioCinema will be the streaming Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, M3GAN as well as movies from Jurassic, Bourne, Shrek, The Mummy and Pitch Perfect franchises.

It will also stream movies from Despicable Me/Minions and Fast franchises, including the newly released Fast X, as well as The Super Mario Bros. Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer will also be heading to the service in the future, said the company.

This is a big deal that will give a tough competition to Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Disney+ Hotstar in India.
