Jio urges government to bid farewell to 2G and 3G networks

Reliance Jio is calling on the government to take action in phasing out 2G and 3G networks, pushing for a transition to 4G and 5G for digital advancement and creative applications.

Jio emphasizes the need for a clear policy and plan to shut down 2G and 3G networks, preventing unnecessary costs and ensuring the migration of all customers to 4G and 5G services.

Jio submitted this viewpoint to the telecom regulator, responding to a consultation paper by TRAI. Jio highlights that this move will boost the development of a 5G ecosystem, supporting innovative use cases.

The operator stresses the pivotal role of 5G in driving digital transformation across industries, offering faster and more reliable connectivity with increased data speeds, bandwidth, and lower latency.

While Jio doesn’t operate 2G or 3G networks, it underscores the potential for 5G to enable new business models and revenue streams, benefiting areas such as IoT, Industry 4.0, autonomous vehicles, smart cities, manufacturing process monitoring, robotics, automation, and AI-driven smart factories.

In light of this, Jio suggests evaluating the need for policy changes or a new framework to facilitate the swift and effective adoption of new technologies, supporting the holistic and sustainable development of the economy through the 5G ecosystem.
