Apple ‘Unleashed’ event scheduled for October 18; MacBook Pro with M1X, new AirPods and more expected

Apple just scheduled its ‘Unleashed’ virtual event on October 18th, as rumoured earlier. We can expect MacBook Pro models with M1X, new Airpods and the company should reveal the roll-out details of the macOS Monterey at the event, after it was shown off at the WWDC 2021 back in June.

The M1X is said to come in two versions: both with 10 CPU cores (eight high-performance and two high-efficiency) and either 16 or 32 graphics cores.  Earlier rumours about MacBook Pro with M1X suggest that there are two new models in the works – a 14-inch and a 16-inch model. It is said to feature an updated industrial design, more ports such as HDMI and SD card, no Touch Bar, and will have a Mini-LED display similar to the latest 12.9-inch iPad Pro.

Earlier rumours revealed that Apple will launch 3rd generation cheaper AirPods with a similar design as the AirPods Pro, with a shorter stem, replaceable ear tips and an improved battery life.  However, it will likely not feature the more premium features like Active Noise cancellation, which can be found on the AirPods Pro.

Apple could also introduce an M1X version of the Mac mini. The rumoured renders revealed a sleeker, new design for the Mac Mini with a similar square metal enclosure and rounded corners, but this time with a “plexiglass-like” top cover. The device is also expected to feature a lot more ports, including 4 Thunderbolt ports, two USB Type-A ports, an Ethernet port and an HDMI port.

The Apple event will begin 10AM PDT (10:30 IST) on October 18th and will stream from Steve Jobs Theater on the Apple Park campus in Cupertino, California.
