Fairphone, known for making smartphones that are easy to repair, has launched its latest product: Fairbuds, a pair of wireless earbuds designed for sustainability.
These earbuds feature a sustainable design with a stick-like shape. The battery is replaceable, designed with a rotating tray accessible with a screwdriver or even a fingernail, secured with a silicone ring to keep out dust and moisture.
Fairbuds are designed to be highly repairable, with replaceable batteries and other parts available. The charging case is fully repairable, with separate components for the outer shell and electronics. The company also offers single earbuds as replacements on their website.
The earbuds come in black, while the transparent silicone ring on the white Fairbuds reveals their modular design. The earbuds are sweat and moisture resistant (IP54) and undergo rigorous durability testing.
Made with nearly 70% fair and recycled materials, they are the most sustainable earbuds yet from Fairphone, featuring 11mm titanium-coated drivers for improved sound quality and active noise cancellation.
The company claims that the battery has an above-average capacity (45mAh) and is rated for 500 charge/discharge cycles, providing up to 2700 hours of listening time before reaching 80% capacity. The earbuds offer 6 hours of listening time per charge, with an additional 20 hours with the charging case.
Other features include dual-point connectivity, customizable EQ settings, clear phone calls and voice recordings with Environmental Noise Canceling (ENC), auto play and pause, Bluetooth v5.3, and USB Type-C charging.
The Fairbuds app has been updated to support these earbuds, offering default tuning, a bass-boosted profile, and a flat profile, along with eight adjustable equalizer bands and regular software updates.
