Samsung 990 EVO SSD with PCIe Gen 5 interface, up to 5000MB/s read speeds announced


Samsung Electronics America has introduced the 990 EVO SSD, designed to enhance everyday computing tasks such as gaming, work, and photo/video editing. This NVMe SSD is versatile, compatible with both PCIe 5.0 and PCIe 4.0 interfaces, making it suitable for a wide range of systems.

Compared to its predecessor, the 990 EVO boasts a 43% performance improvement. With sequential read speeds up to 5,000 MB/s and write speeds up to 4,200 MB/s, along with enhanced random read and write speeds, the SSD delivers efficient performance.

Featuring Host Memory Buffer (HMB) technology, the SSD directly links to the host processor’s DRAM, optimizing performance even without DRAM. The 990 EVO promises faster game loading and quicker access to large files when upgrading from a previous mainstream SSD.

With a 70% improvement in power efficiency compared to its predecessor, the 990 EVO extends the use of PCs or laptops. Supporting Modern Standby ensures quick device resumption from sleep, even in low power mode.

The SSD’s heat spreader label effectively regulates thermal conditions, enabling consistent high-level operations without compromising drive integrity.

Furthermore, it supports Samsung Magician software for streamlining SSD upgrades, data migration, security, drive health monitoring, and timely firmware updates, along with a five-year Limited Warranty.
