MediaTek Dimensity 9400 with ARM ‘BlackHawk’ CPU architecture surfaces

MediaTek is preparing to launch its latest 3nm chipset, the Dimensity 9400, which could incorporate ARM’s newest CPU architecture, ‘BlackHawk,’ for improved performance over chips like the A17 Pro and Qualcomm Oyron, as per tipster Digital Chat Station.

Reports suggest that MediaTek and ARM are collaborating to integrate the ‘BlackHawk’ architecture into the Dimensity 9400. This collaboration could potentially give the Dimensity 9400 a performance boost compared to its competitors.

Similar to the Dimensity 9300, rumors suggest that the Dimensity 9400 won’t include efficiency cores. This absence could enhance its performance in tasks that utilize multiple threads.

With the addition of the Cortex-X5 using ARM’s new BlackHawk architecture, internal tests are looking promising, according to him.

While exact performance numbers weren’t shared, it’s claimed that the Instructions Per Clock (IPC) is higher than that of Apple’s A17 Pro and Qualcomm Nuvia, potentially surpassing even the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4.

The tipster noted that the “bottom of the chip” indicates powerful performance, hinting at its strength, especially considering that the Dimensity 9400 is expected to be the largest smartphone chip ever.

Leaks suggest the Dimensity 9400 will feature a full core lineup of X5+X4+A7, including one Cortex-X5 Prime CPU core, four Cortex-X4 Prime CPU cores, and four Cortex-A720 performance CPU cores, in line with leaked specifications.

The official announcement for the Dimensity 9400 is slated for Q4 2024.
