Samsung could potentially introduce more affordable foldable phones, such as the Galaxy Z Flip FE and Z Fold FE, as hinted by tipster Kro (@kro_roe) on X (formerly Twitter).
This follows earlier reports suggesting that the Fold FE might debut after the launch of Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Fold 6 later this year.
Galaxy Z Flip FE and Z Fold FE
According to screenshots shared by the tipster, Samsung is working on budget-friendly versions of its foldable devices under the Fan Edition brand.
The leaked images showcase two alleged Samsung foldable phones named ‘Galaxy Z Fold FE’ and ‘Galaxy Z Flip FE.’ The Flip FE seems to offer 8GB of RAM, 256GB of storage, and potentially a Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chip.
However, the purported Galaxy Z Fold FE raises some concerns. The screenshot indicates that the phone might not be equipped with an Exynos 2200 or Exynos 2400 chip but with another unidentified Exynos SoC starting with “2,” possibly the non-existent Exynos 2300.
The tipster claims that only one of these Fan Edition foldable phones will hit the market. Adding to this, another tipster named Anthony (@TheGalox_) suggests that both Fan Editions of Galaxy Fold and Flip could feature Exynos models, potentially the Exynos 2200.
Why Galaxy FE foldables?
If Samsung does release FE foldables, it could make foldable phones more affordable by making strategic decisions regarding peripherals and materials.
For instance, omitting support for the S-Pen stylus, reducing memory and storage options, and opting for cheaper materials could help lower production costs.
Although offering a Snapdragon 7 series chipset instead of the top-tier Snapdragon 8 series may compromise performance, it aligns with the cost-saving strategy.
While these screenshots should be approached cautiously, they’re not the first hints of Samsung’s potential Fan Edition foldable phones, but it’s wise not to rely heavily on these leaks until confirmed.
