Google Photos update brings easier album sorting, quicker screenshot search and more

Google has announced a bunch of updates for Google Photos that will be rolling out over the coming weeks. Users will soon find it easier to organize their albums and on-device folders, import photos from other services, quickly access new screenshots and more.

The update will improve the layout of the Library tab in the Google Photos app, where it will soon show a grid (or list) that you can quickly filter by type (albums, shared albums, favorites, on-device folders) and then sort.

There is also a new utility called “Import photos”, which can be used to copy photos from other services, digitize photos (or videos and film) or move photos from a camera.

The “Sharing” tab is also getting an improved layout, with new sections for partner sharing, shared albums and conversations. This should make it easier to find, view and manage your shared photos and videos. This particular update will roll out on Android this week, and will come later to iOS.

Using screenshots on Google Photos is also improved slightly now. The app will now show a shortcut at the top of your main photo grid that will navigate straight to the screenshots folder. Along with this update, when viewing a screenshot, Google Photos will show suggestions to copy text, crop, and search using Google Lens.
